For those of us who want to see the coastal beauty of the County a little bit quicker, cycling Cornwall is a great option for an afternoon out.

Here at Select Cornwall we have put together a short list of stunning cycle trails that are safe for all ages. We have focused on easy, shorter trails that avoid roadside travel for this beginners guide.

1. The Camel Trail

Number one in order and in stature, The Camel Trail comes first in this list for a reason. In acres of flat abandoned railside travel - this cycle path offers a trip so smooth you'll feel like you're cycling on thin air.

The trail goes on for 18 miles but is covered in picturesque spots to stop for lunch and head back... making it ideal for those of us traveling with little cyclists who can't always be trusted not to change their mind.

The trail is perfect for a picnic and finishes in Padstow which is equally exquisite for pub and restaurant options.

Our Recommended Stay:

Modern Villa Short Walk to Padstow Town

We recommend a resting your weary head in this Padstow stunner. Ideally located at the end of the trail and boasting a sun-trapped garden and modern decor, this is a great place for a post cycle soiree.

2. Lanhydrock Cycle Trails

Landhydrock is perfect for an Autumn or Spring wander with the family. The serene natural beauty that surrounds Lanhydrock's wide cycle paths is incredible during the changing of the seasons.

There is also National Trust cycle hire on site for individuals traveling from too far a-field to bring their own sets of wheels. This cycle couldn't be more relaxed, easy on the legs or beautiful to look at so it had to be on our list.

Our Recommended Stay:

AppleTree House - 10 mins from the Harbour

To get the best of both worlds, we recommend this Beach-Side Coastal Beauty that is just a short drive south in St Austell. Not only is this accommodation beautiful, tropical and by the harbour, but it is also close to Cornwall's capital Truro and by proxy the rest of what the County has to offer.

3. The Cornish Way

This is where this list stops being an entryway to Cornish cycle paths and becomes a guide to it's holy grails... The Cornish Way is an enormous mega-trail that all bike enthusiasts must experience. The renowned 'National Cycle Route 3' connects Cornwall to Bristol and is by some margin the biggest name on this list in the cycle path game.

Though completing the whole thing may be a step too far for the beginners among us, spurts of the trail like the ones from St Austell to The Eden Project or through Mousehole and Penzance are a great option for new cyclists wanting to see the County's best sights.

Our Recommended Stay:

Window View Overlooking Water and St Micheal's Mount

When frequenting this sightseeing behemoth, we recommended making yourselves at home at this West-Cornwall beauty. This home for 8 has a fabulous view of St Michaels Mount and is stellarly located for access to the start of the route and all the hop on points along South and West Cornwall.

And that is our guide to Cornish cycling... two very easy family cycles and one extremely long multi-day travel through the entire County!

-on a serious note we hope you give our beginner's options a try and take a peak at what our famed national route has to offer on its easier straights.
