As we near the bitter middle of winter, beaten down by the cold of the british wind and rain, we all simultaneously remember that the next 2 week break the kids have from school is their Easter (or spring) holidays. For some, this is a difficult pill to swallow, but for others it gives us a chance to dream of the perfect staycation destination to have a full summer holiday in just a one or two week break.

Cornwall sits comfortably among the mainland's warmest counties and is covered with accomodation and activities that families with children of any age can get excited by. Thus is the reason for this list, here are the 5 best holiday cottages in Cornwall for the Easter bank holidays:

1. The Valley

The Valley Pool

The Valley is an enclosed community of over 40 self-catering cottages spread across their private hills between Falmouth and Truro. This cottage specifically can sleep up to six and has a 1 of 1 view from its balcony of Cornwall at sunset. Staying here comes with access to indoor and outdoor heated pools, hot tubs and a small gym that you can book for your private use.

As it exists within a community of cottages - the kids can find other children their age to play with. It is also a great location for family activity as the grounds themselves split off into multiple walking and cycling routes around Cornwall.

The Valley is ideally located for day trips to beaches, coastal waks, Newquay and St Ives and it has its own Azura restaurant which is open in the summer months to take some cooking responsibilities off of the parents.

2. Steppes Farm Cottage

Villa Sauna in Cottage Cornwall

A gorgeously decorated cottage with a hot tub just walking distance from the beach? Who could say no? This 5 Star offering can sleep 4, has a beautiful private location and has enough parking for four people to bring four cars if thats really what you're into. Oh, and did we forget to mention that it has a sauna? Well it does. Steppes' is perfect for a family of four. It's just a short drive from Cornish surfing hotspots like Bude and Padstow, and is right along the coast which ideal for a scenic after dinner walk.

3. Dola Lane

Dola Lane View

At number three we have our best pick for a large family get-together this spring. Able to host over 7 people and multiple dogs, Dola Lane could not be better equipt to host two sets of families meeting up in Penzance. The cottage looks over St Micheals Mount, which is Cornwall's equivalent to the Disney Castle, and is just a short walk from the centre of Penzance where trains are readily available to take you to Truro, Newquay and Falmouth. There's also plenty of family activities just round the corner including the famous Jubilee freshwater pool

4. Barn Owl Cottage

This place is every cottage-core lover's dream. High ceilings, wooden beams and cute stonewall exteriors make this a home away from home that really feels like one. Barn Owl Cottage is a great 4 bedroom option that can sleep up to 6. The large holiday cottage has a beautiful porch and artique furnishings and is fantastic for families wanting a slightly quieter escape to the country.
