Affordable Holiday Cottages in Cornwall: Our Top 5

The appeal of a staycation that doesn’t sacrifice any sun is obvious and the allure of a cute holiday cottage one can call a home away from home for a week or two is equally clear. However, the luxury of a Cornish coastal escape does not come without it’s perceived drawbacks. Namely, the price. Over the past few years as the demand for picturesque stays in the ‘English Riviera’ has risen so has the price.

With this in mind, Select Cornwall has put together a list of comfortable, coastal and characterful cottages that can all be booked for less than £100 per night (or even as low as £35!)

1. Bay View Barn

Bay View Cornish Holiday Cottage

First in our list is Bay View Barn, which makes up the premium end of our budget selection with the cottage costing anywhere from £83 per night. We’d argue that for a budget list this cottage looks largely out of place. A modern-open plan layout coupled with tasteful decorating, private decking and wooden beams make this the perfect retreat spot for a couple to get away from it all.

The cottage is lined with panoramic window views of Cornwall’s west coast and boasts a St Ives location that means the perfect day out is only a short drive away. It also has a private outdoor sitting area with decking and a scenic country location that is ideal those of us who enjoy a quiet glass of wine and a good book.

We foremost recommend this cottage for couples because it only sleeps two but does so very comfortably with a lovely ensuite bathroom.

2. Steppes Farm

Steppes Farm Holiday Cottage

What doesn’t Steppes Farm have?

We have all, at some point, gone on the hunt for a hot tub hideaway and quickly given up after being faced with an astronomical price tag -which is the exact issue Steppes Farm exists to solve. With prices starting at just £69 per night and not only a hot tub but a private sauna on offer – this is an affordable Cornish holiday cottage that can rival any other.

Steppes’ offers a unique cottaging experience that is hard not to call under-priced. It’s the perfect relaxation station for up to 4 people and is equipped with all the bells and whistles to bring a little one along with you (cots, high chairs etc.).

3. Enys Boathouse

Cornwall Holiday Cottage Enys

Enys’ wooden little boathouse is categorically adorable. Situated in quiet and aesthetic Helston, it’s one of our top cottages for hiking couples and families who wanted to take in Cornwall’s great outdoors. IWalkCornwall has a guide to the Helston area as long as your arm. There are also a mass of beautiful beaches and surf spots in and around the area, including ‘Poldhu Beach’ which is one of our favourite coastal walks in all of Cornwall.

The property itself sleeps 4, has a lovely open plan design with every kitchen utencil you could desire for a week away, as well as a private garden area which is great for families with children who need to be well run-around before bed.

We recommend this pick as a great option for active families looking for a more affordable way to see Cornwall as it is priced from just £57 per night.

4. Self-Catering Apartment, North Cornwall Coast

Self Catering Holiday Appartment

Now this is a bit of a cheat as it isn’t necessarily a ‘Cottage’ in the literal sense. However, with prices starting from as low £46 per night, this beautifully decorated apartment with a to-die-for location might just be the perfect way to staycate in Cornwall on a budget.

Situated in Bude and just 2 miles from the beach, this cottage offers fantastic access to beautiful points along the south-west coastal paths as well as northern parts of Devon. This is a cheap retreat for beach lovers for sure, and it’s two bedrooms make it a great option for a group of friends chasing waves or a family that’d like to get some sun.

5. Honeymoon Cottage, Newquay

Cornwall Holidays Direct

This is our MOST affordable Cornwall holiday cottage, coming in at less than £40 per night. The romantic and deserving-of-it’s-name ‘Honeymoon Cottage’ in Newquay is the bargain to end all bargains. This traditional Cornish cottage has everything a couple may need, including plentiful parking, a stunning ensuite, original features and a brand new kitchen. It’s accessible for all as it is just 1 story and can also be booked for couples with very young children as a cot is allowed to be added.

The Newquay location only makes the price more unbelievable. Almost universally regarded as the queen of Cornish tourism to St Ives’ king status, Newquay has the restaurant scene, activities, attractions and nightlife to keep any traveller happy.
