Cornwall boasts stunning, diverse landscapes, charming villages, and a rich cultural heritage that has long attracted film-makers and TV crews. Here’s some of the most famous locations across the Duchy that have featured on film! All of course make beautiful days out whilst on holiday in Cornwall.
Actor Kris Marshall takes the lead in the BBC's Death in Paradise's spin off, "Beyond Paradise". His fictional detective, DI Goodman, is tackling crimes on British soil this time. Although this crime drama is set in Devon, the majority of the show was actually shot in Looe, Cornwall. It is believed that the Cornish town satisfied all of the location requirements with a good sense of community. The village is portrayed as 'Shipton Abbott' in the TV series.
Arguably most famous, the beautiful Georgian port of Charlestown (just outside of St Austell) is home to Poldark. This now famous harbour was built between 1791-1801 and remains unspoilt to this day, still home to a number of working ships and fishing boats. Charlestown is instantly recognisable to Poldark viewers and the small Cornish village attracts a huge amount of tourists.
The BBC drama television series follows Poldark (Aidan Turner) as he returns to Cornwall after the American War of Independence. There are many ‘Poldark’ tours available to take you through the old ‘Truro’ Harbour, as it’s portrayed in the show. The rugged cliffs and dramatic scenery of Porthcurno also featured in the Poldark production, as well as an array of other beautiful locations across Cornwall.
The most recent critically and commercially successful film to be shot in Cornwall was the 2019 musical comedy, Fisherman’s Friends and its 2022 sequel which in turn was inspired by the true story of the folk band of the same name and was shot in and around Port Isaac near Wadebridge.
Port Isaac is a charming fishing village located on the North Cornwall coast and is known for its stunning scenery and historic harbour. The village itself played a central role in the film and served as the backdrop for many scenes. "Fisherman's Friends" is based on the true story of a group of Cornish fishermen who formed a traditional sea shanty singing group called the "Fisherman's Friends." The group hails from Port Isaac.

While there, he encounters the Fisherman's Friends singing on the quayside, and he is struck by their talent and authenticity. Danny proposes a record deal, despite the skepticism of his friends and the fishermen themselves. The small fishing village of Port Isaac is instantly recognizable to fans of the TV series "Doc Martin." Tourists flock from around the globe to see this quaint fishing village on the North Cornish coast. Portraying the fictional village of Portwenn in the show, this charming Cornish town has become synonymous with the beloved character played by Martin Clunes. Visitors can explore the narrow streets and picturesque harbour that have graced their screens for years. "Doc Martin" is a beloved British television series that has captured the hearts of audiences around the world with its unique blend of medical drama, comedy, and heartwarming storytelling.
The show follows the life and adventures of Dr. Martin Ellingham, portrayed by Martin Clunes, a brilliant yet socially challenged London surgeon who relocates to the picturesque village.Top of Form Port Isaac's real-life village school is used as the setting for Portwenn Primary School in the series, where Louisa Glasson teaches. Its lovely stone facade and idyllic setting contribute to the show's rustic charm. You will be able to spot other famous buildings instantly wandering the streets of Port Isaac.
St. Michael's Mount St. Michael's Mount, an iconic rocky island crowned with a medieval castle and subtropical gardens, has graced the silver screen in several productions.
