Springtime Fun in Cornwall: Family-Friendly Events this March & Easter

As the daffodils bloom and the days grow longer, Cornwall comes alive with a vibrant array of family-friendly events and activities during March and Easter. From traditional Easter egg hunts to exhilarating outdoor adventures on the water, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this picturesque corner of England. Let's explore some of the highlights...

1. Easter Egg Hunts

Cornwall is renowned for its delightful Easter egg hunts in scenic surroundings, scattered across various locations from lush gardens to historic estates. Families can embark on egg-stra egg-citing egg hunts, following clues and searching high and low along the Cornish coast for hidden treasures. Popular venues such as Lanhydrock House, Bodmin, Trebah Garden, Falmouth, and Glendurgan Gardens, Falmouth, often host egg hunts amidst their stunning landscapes, offering a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty.

2. Beachside Fun

With the arrival of spring and some warmer, longer days, Cornwall's pristine beaches entice visitors for a day filled with sand and surf. Pack a picnic, a few blankets and raincoats just in case, and head to popular coastal spots like Fistral Beach or Perranporth Beach, where children can build sandcastles, paddle in the shallows, and explore rock pools teeming with marine life. Many dog friendly beaches are still free for dogs to roam off leads at Easter time too!

Don't forget to keep an eye out for special Easter-themed events happening along the coastline, such as beach ran egg hunts! Having mentioned this, Padstow hosts an egg decoration day and race! This tradition of rolling decorated eggs down Duke Street on Easter Sunday has entertained for many years. Participate by bringing your own hard-boiled egg and joining in.

3. Farmyard Adventures

For a taste of rural charm, families can visit one of Cornwall's many working farms and animal sanctuaries. Places like Dairyland Farm World in Newquay, Healey’s Cyder Farm in Truro, The Screech Owl Sanctuary,  Hayle’s Paradise Park and The Lost Gardens of Heligan offer hands-on experiences where children can interact with farm (and more exotic) animals, learn about sustainable agriculture, and even try their hand at milking a cow. With petting zoos, tractor rides, and nature trails aplenty, these animal adventures promise a memorable day out for the whole family.

4. Celebrate St Piran’s Day and National Pasty Week

Celebrating St. Piran's Day in Falmouth is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Cornwall's rich cultural heritage. St. Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall, and his day, celebrated on March 5th, is a time for locals and visitors alike to come together and honour Cornish identity, traditions, and history. Join in the parade and the lively St. Piran's Day procession trough the streets of Falmouth.

There are festivals and events held across other parts of Cornwall. Look out for colourful banners, traditional Cornish costumes, and of course the iconic St. Piran's flag (white cross on a black background). Aligning with St Piran’s Day is National Pasty Week, which typically falls in the first week of March. It's a celebration of one of Cornwall's most iconic meals- the humble pasty. This week highlights the history, craftsmanship, and deliciousness of this traditional treat.

5. Nature Trails and Exploring

With its rugged coastline, lush countryside, and diverse ecosystems, Cornwall is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and comes alive in the Spring time. Families can embark on scenic nature trails this March, explore ancient woodlands, and discover hidden gems tucked away off the beaten path.

Whether it's birdwatching at RSPB Marazion Marsh, hiking along the South West Coast Path, or cycling through the picturesque Camel Trail, there's no shortage of adventures to be had in Cornwall's great outdoors. Many outdoor activity centres and parks, such as The Eden Project and The Lost Garden’s of Heligan, have plenty of covered and indoor spaces too, so don’t let the typical English weather stop you from exploring.

This enchanting corner of England provides a perfect family retreat in March, with plenty of Easter events and family days out at every turn! Why not stay at The 5* Valley Cottages this Easter?
