Where to get the best cream tea in Cornwall I 2024

Welcome to Cornwall, home to the iconic Cornish cream tea! A land of outstanding natural beauty in southwest England, where one thing stands out for both locals and visitors alike.. the delicious local cuisine, all best enjoyed by the sea. Nestled within the quaint villages and charming cafes and traditional tearooms in Cornwall, you will find hand-made, fluffy warm scones, rich clotted cream from local dairies, and local jams, all served alongside a piping hot pot of tea. Did you know, Cornwall has it’s own tea plantation too? Take a tour of Tregothnan Tea whilst on holiday.

So.. where did cream tea come from?

Cream tea is a centuries-old tradition with cultural significance. The tradition of cream tea is said to have originated in Tavistock Abbey in Devon in the 11th Century- where the monks used to make clotted cream and feed labourers with bread, jam and cream. Cream tea has been enjoyed ever since, and is considered a ‘must do’ when on holiday in Cornwall.

Make sure you put the jam on first!

Cornwall and Devon, both famed for their cream teas, have a rivalry taken quite seriously by locals. In Cornwall, the majority place jam on their scones first, but it’s vice versa in Devon! Whether you're exploring the rugged coastline or wandering through picturesque towns, a taste of Cornwall's best cream tea is a must-have experience while visiting, especially harbourside or beachside!
